Linked Up – Winter Championships 2020

Southington got a number of strong performances to earn a title in Class L. David G. Whitham – Hearst CT Media.

It begins with many runs at the Floyd Little Athletic Center and wraps up with the “Run To The Sun” and the “Road To The Whale.” Of course the “it” is the CIAC winter championship season, and it is underway. Thirty-seven teams will lift CIAC championship plaques and there will be stories on those and many others throughout the winter. Linked Up – Winter Championships 2020 will have all the great championship stories and corresponding emotion right here.

For those unfamiliar (or simply as a reminder for those who are previously familiar) Linked Up Championships will provide a link to the local media story for all of the CIAC Championships over the course of the season. It provides a one-stop shop for anyone looking for great stories on championship-winning teams.

Gymnastics:

Danbury’s Ryan Jack captured a fourth-straight State Open title as an individual and helped his team to a fourth-straight win as well. Christian Abraham – Hearst CT Media.

Wrestling:

Fairfield Ludlowe’s Tess Stapleton had a record-setting day at the State Open. Peter Hvizdak – Hearst CT Media.

Girls Indoor Track & Field:

  • From the Hartford Courant: Glastonbury got contributions from everywhere en route to its first State Open in almost a decade.
  • From the Hartford Courant: Windsor needed, and got, the little bit more its coach asks for to claim another Class L championship.
  • From the Norwalk Hour: Things started well for Weston and then ended very well with the team earning the Class M title.
  • From GameTimeCT: Bloomfield took control and never let go as the team earned the title in Class S.
  • From the Hartford Courant: Depth was the key in Class LL as Glastonbury scored points in a variety of way to earn the crown.

Conard’s Gavin Sherry celebrates a record time at the State Open. Cloe Poisson – Special to Hartford Courant.

Boys Indoor Track & Field:

  • From the Hartford Courant: A standout field-event-trio was the difference as Bloomfield claimed the State Open title.
  • From the Hartford Courant: Strength in the distance events was key for Tolland as the team won a title for the first time in 23 year in Class M.
  • From the Hartford Courant: It came in unusual and dramatic fashion, but Hall finished as the champions of Class LL.
  • From the New Haven Register: Hillhouse was in Class L this season, but still found a way to earn a championship.
  • From GameTimeCT: After a (relative) Class S title drought, Bloomfield returned to the championship circle in impressive fashion.
