The Canton girls volleyball team was recognized with the annual CAAD Sportsmanship Award at the CAAD General Meeting held at the Sheraton Hartford South Hotel and Conference Center on Wednesday, October 5. The award is given annually by the Connecticut Association of Athletics Directors in recognition of an athlete, team, or school that has performed acts of “OUTSTANDING” sportsmanship or service towards others. Emphasis should be placed on actual acts of kindness and/or unselfishness for the good of sport.

The Canton girls volleyball team was recognized for its work on behalf of the Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance and its relationship with a young girl from Avon battling a brain tumor. The team has taken part in several fundraising events and established a relationship with the girl and her family, and this season dedicated its first home match of the year to her.
