Singles Bowling Champions Crowned

bowling imageA pair of champions were crowned at the second CIAC Singles Bowling Tournament at Nutmeg Lanes in Fairfield on Saturday, January 21 with 75 bowlers taking part in the event. Individual champions were crowned in the girls and boys competition. All 75 competitors bowled four games and the top three finishers on the girls and boys competition advanced to the finals where the individual with the third-highest score faced the individual with the second-highest cumulative total. The winner of that match takes on the performer who had the highest cumulative total in the four games.

Kayla Bivens from Fairfield Warde was the champion on the girls side after she produced a score of 721 over four games which was the third-highest girls score in regulation. She then topped Skyler Brown (726 total) from New Milford 179-151 in the first knockout match and then earned a 180-167 win over Tiffany Nixon from St. Joseph (732 total) to capture the title. Bivens was the runner-up in the inaugural event last season, falling in the final by a single pin.

The third-place finisher in regulation also went on a championship run in the boys competition as William Weidlick of Newington earned the title. He rolled a 794 total and then defeated Abbot Tech’s Erik Pinell (808 total) 183-167 in the first match to advance to the finals where he topped Rob Cassucci (848 total) of Fairfield Warde 224-188 to earn the title. Cassuci produced a 256 score in his second game for the high score on the day, and Brown posted a 231 for the highest girls game score on the day.
