Annual Athletics Directors Conference Is Approaching

Provided by the Connecticut Association of Athletics Directors – On March 23 & 24, Connecticut Athletic Directors will be holding their annual conference at the Sheraton Hartford South in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. This two-day conference provides an outstanding educational in-service program for all Connecticut athletic directors. Model after the National Athletic Directors Conference held annually in December, this year’s state conference will offer coaching education instructor training, nationally recognized speakers, professional development workshops and seminars, and a sport product exhibit show. In the evening on the first day of the conference, the Annual Awards Banquet takes place.

Each year, CAAD (Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors) recognizes outstanding contributors in the field of athletic administration. Being recognized at this year’s banquet are: Distinguished Service Award – Kevin Burke, NIAAA State Award of Merit – Heidi Schmidt, and Robert Duncanson Meritorious Service Award – John Niski. A highlight to this year’s awards ceremony will be the induction of the second class of the CAAD Hall of Fame. The distinguished honorees being welcomed into the CAAD Hall of Fame are Patsy Lemley Kamercia and Ed Tyburski. Also being recognized at the banquet are the high school students who were selected as Connecticut’s entries to the NIAAA Essay Scholarship Award Program.

On Wednesday, March 22, prior to the start of the conference, CAAD will be offering two NIAAA Leadership Training Courses (LTCs) for athletic administrators. These courses provide the athletic administrator the opportunity to enhance his/her own professional development as well as to work toward national certification. The LTC courses that will be offered are LTC 617 – Athletic Administration: Administration of Interscholastic Sports Medicine Programs and LTC 799 – Standards of Excellence in Interscholastic Athletic Programs.

The conference is a “must-attend “ for all athletic directors. It’s a great opportunity for all athletic directors to gain valuable experience from their peers, to gain much insight and knowledge on current topics addressing the concerns of athletic directors, and to bring back ideas to better serve their own school districts. Registration information and forms have been sent out to all athletic directors. Athletic directors may register on-line at :
