#5 – An acrobatic lay-up sparks Farmington to Division III boys basketball championship

It is not as if Farmington High School was bereft of CIAC State Championships. The school boasts one of the most successful boys soccer programs in Connecticut, and overall the school had earned 51 state titles in 14 different sports. But one title had proved elusive — a boys basketball championship. Through the first half of the Division III final at Mohegan Sun, that breakthrough title was not looking particularly likely. Farmington scored just 16 points in the first half and trailed Amistad by nine. The second half was a different story. Farmington scored 12 unanswered points in the first two minutes of the third quarter, highlighted by the spectacular 3-point play from Bube Momah shown below. The energy of that run seemed to be the culmination of the decades of thirsting for a title, and it carried the team through the wave of points. The Indians never trailed the rest of the game, and at long last, the team had its boys basketball state title.
