#3 – Mya Johnson caps decorated career with game-winning goal for Old Lyme girls soccer

Sometimes a championship moment contains so many different components of story and drama, that surely some of those smaller moments would have been noteworthy enough. A late goal to break a tie and send the team to a championship would be enough. A late goal coming as part of a comeback after falling behind early would be enough. Two goals coming from a senior to win a title in her final game would be enough. Two goals in a state final giving a senior her 100 and 101st career goals would be enough. A senior scoring all of the team’s last five goals en route to a state championship would be enough. A senior capping one of the most successful high school careers in recent memory with the winning goal that gave her and her team four-consecutive state titles would be enough. Mya Johnson’s winning goal in the Class S state championship game had all of that, which makes it clear why the fans felt it deserved a high spot in the CIAC Championship Moments Vote.
