2019-20 CAS-CIAC Battle of the Fans Winner
Congratulations to Glastonbury High School
Thank you to all the schools that submitted entries for year six of the CAS-CIAC Battle of the Fans. This event continues to grow and foster the sort of sportsmanship, fan behavior, student leadership and student participation that will make schools, parents, athletes and CAS-CIAC proud, and the participation from our member schools in the six years has been stellar.
Meet The Glastonbury “12th Man”
The Glastonbury High School Story
For Glastonbury High School, it was a complete performance. Much like a team that puts together a game where everything works, that was the story and the driving force for the school’s selection as the winner in the 2019-20 CAS-CIAC Battle of the Fans competition.
They produced a well made and comprehensive submission video that highlighted the enthusiasm and spirit the group brings to supporting their athletic teams, but the positive community and inclusive atmosphere that is a part of that enthusiasm. Not only is the “12th Man” welcoming to all students, but it has demonstrated it supports all sports and activities, whether showing up in large numbers for a state championship soccer match, or during impromptu site visits for boys and girls basketball. In meetings with student and school leaders, it was evident the pride they all felt in representing their school, and more importantly supporting their peers in a positive way.
It all came together for a total package that was hard to overcome, despite stiff competition from many other schools, including fellow finalist East Lyme and its “Viking Valley.” In the end, that complete performance told a story of a student section that strives to match the successful programs on the field with high levels of energy and enthusiasm and bring a little something extra. That something extra was enough to earn Glastonbury High School the honor as the winner of the CAS-CIAC Battle of the Fans.
Here is Glastonbury’s submission video that helped earn them the Battle of the Fans title. The video was produced, written, filmed, and edited by Glastonbury student Erin Cabana.
