CAS-CIAC To Hold Legal Workshop For Schools Addressing Issues With Transgender Students and Students With Disabilities

CHESHIRE, Ct. – CAS-CIAC is pleased to announce that a legal workshop entitled Transgender Students and Individuals with Disabilities in Student Activities-What Every School Needs to Know will be presented by Thomas Mooney and Julie Fay of the law firm of Shipman and Goodwin on Monday March 25, 2013 from 4:00-6:00 PM at the CAS-CIAC office in Cheshire.

Attorneys Mooney and Fay will explore the legal ramifications for schools to remain in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the development of 504 plans and IEP’s for disabled student and, what schools will need to do to comply with Connecticut’s non-discrimination law Public Act No.11-55 in regards to transgender student based upon recently released guidelines/requirements from OCR and the CT Safe Schools Coalition.

This workshop is open to all member school superintendents, administrators, athletic directors, guidance and special education directors.
