Snow, snow everywhere. That is the story that has dominated the state landscape over the past week, and that includes the high school sports landscape as the weather forced frantic shuffling and rescheduling of competition. Amid all the turmoil, there were some excellent stories told around the state, and the newest edition of Linked Up has them.
- From the Norwich Bulletin: Teammates and friends on the Woodstock gymnastic team shared an individual honor.
- From the Denton Record-Chronicle: A military father and a basketball-playing son are still able to connect despite the distance. CIACsports.com wrote a similar story about the impact of the CIAC Network, but the stories are still amazing.
- From the New London Day: Often lots of discussion about what outstanding student-athletes accomplish once they leave the high school ranks. This former Ledyard standout returned to the school to try and lead it.
- From the Stamford Advocate: Not surprisingly lots of folks are not happy about wrestling being dropped from the Olympics, and that includes area high school wrestling coaches.
- From the Hartford Courant: One way to almost guarantee a Linked Up mention is to have a story about teams working together to provide an example of tremendous sportsmanship. Also from the Courant a piece on the rise of the Capital Prep track team, particularly the distance runners.
- From MagicValley.com: An interesting look at how the development of middle school athletics programs can foster a more successful high school program.
- From the Norwalk Hour: Within this discussion of the Class S Indoor Track & Field Championships is a look at arguably the most accomplished girls pole vaulter in state history.
- From the Dallas Morning News: How big a challenge does a deaf high school football player face? This article answers that question.
- From the Waterbury Republican-American: Not specifically about high school sports, but a nice piece from Joe Palladino on how communities come together in the face of major disruptions–such as an enormous blizzard.
- From the New Haven Register: A comprehensive preview of the Wrestling Class Championships which begin today.
