With the long-delayed class L softball championship wrapping up on Wednesday in dramatic fashion, the 2012-13 CIAC team championship season is now officially in the books. Last week Linked Up covered the first 18 champions crowned during the spring, and here is the final championship edition of Linked Up which highlights the rest of the spring sport championship teams. There are a lot of wonderful stories among these links, and the teams that both won the titles and those that came up just a bit short are worthy of congratulations.
- From the Hartford Courant: Bloomfield closed a memorable season by winning both the boys and girls championship at the outdoor track and field Open. Also from the Courant some top athletes had days to remember and forget.
- From the Waterbury Republican-American: One week after a runner-up performance, Pomperaug redeemed itself with a Division I golf championship.
- From the New Haven Register: The teams and competitors had a week to wait, but it was worth it for Daniel Hand which earned the Division II golf title.
- From the Waterbury Republican-American: It took the coach a little while to realize it, but eventually it became clear the Holy Cross team would win the Division III boys golf championship.
- From the New Haven Register: Not that long ago the Morgan boys golf team was unable to claim a win, this year the team won the Division IV championship.
- From the New Britain Herald: The Berlin girls golf team made history with a third-straight girls golf championship.
- From the Norwalk Hour: Dropping the first set did not deter the Staples boys volleyball team from capturing another class L state title.
- From the Waterbury Republican-American: Oxford boys volleyball took the final step to earn the class M boys volleyball championship.
- From the Hartford Courant: A freshman felt the disappointment from last season, and made a big difference this year as Southington earned the class LL softball title.
- From the New Haven Register: Preparation, and some good fortune provided a wild finish as Masuk claimed the class L softball crown.
- From the New London Day: A dream season ended in dream fashion for the Waterford softball team as it won the class M championship.
- From the Waterbury Republican-American: Oxford found a four-leaf clover, and then found a state championship in the class S softball final.
- From the Connecticut Post: A lineup changed sparked a second-half run to propel Fairfield Prep to a second-straight boys lacrosse class L championship.
- From the Norwalk Hour: A slow start to the season did not deter Wilton as the team’s postseason run ended with a class M boys lacrosse title.
- From the Norwalk Hour: The Weston boys lacrosse team pulled out a narrow victory to claim the class S championship.
- From the Stamford Advocate: For a program with quite a history, the Darien girls lacrosse team earned high praise from their coach after winning the class L title.
- From the Stamford Advocate: The search for the perfect gift for their coach ended with a class M championship for the New Canaan girls lacrosse team.
- From the Norwalk Hour: Two seniors helped lead the way for Weston as it captured a class S girls lacrosse championship.
- From the New Haven Register: As if strong pitching wasn’t enough, Amity also got offense from its hurler to capture the class LL baseball title.
- From the Greenwich Time: The New Canaan baseball team sets big goals. This year, they achieved the biggest one with a class L championship.
- From the Connecticut Post: St. Joseph went extra innings, but came away with its first title since 1985 in the class M championship game.
- From the Waterbury-Republican American: A team of “grinders” from Oxford capped a remarkable weekend for the school by winning the class S baseball title.
