Symposium To Focus On Health Issues For Girls In Sports

A Symposium intended for female high school athletes and school administrators entitled, “what’s your healthy? (TM) finding my balance”, will take place at the New Haven Open at Yale tennis tournament on Monday, August 19, 2013.

Sponsored by Aetna, the Symposium will feature discussions on women in athletics living a well-rounded healthy life from top notch panelists including a nutritionist, a sports psychologist, an orthopedic surgeon, a high school athletic director, a current college athlete, and Karissa Niehoff, Executive Director of the CIAC.  The panelists will focus on topics that relate to girls’ athletics, nutrition, and overall personal wellness.  Coaches and girls in attendance will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists and interact at the conclusion of the event.

Some of the topics for discussion will be:

* The mental, emotional, and social aspects of athletic participation
* How nutrition and performance shape our health and lifestyle
* How sportsmanship can effect one’s healthy state
* Risks associated with specialization

Attendees are invited to arrive early and walk the grounds before the Symposium begins.  At the conclusion of the Symposium, attendees can stay in the stadium and watch the best of women’s professional tennis, up close and personal.  Overall, the day will be a fun, positive, and informative experience for everyone.
