The latest edition of the CIAC Coaches Update Newsletter is available for viewing on-line and has been distributed throughout the state for schools and coaches to enjoy. The latest edition tackles a pair of vastly different, but equally different topics. The first is aimed at both coaches and parents, and tries to help answer the challenging question of the best way to talk to kids in that sensitive period directly after a game. It deals with questions of “what do I say if his/her team won, what do I say if the team lost, or what do I say if my child did not play well?” The other article is lengthy but follows up on previous issues of Coaches Update featured articles on periodization. This article on periodization deals with the mental skills part of training as it applies to that topic and is something any coach who wants to be successful over an extended length of time will find beneficial.
