Program Is Set For 2013 Sportsmanship Conference

CHESHIRE, Conn. – More than 620 students, coaches, and athletics administrators are expected to be in attendance at the 2013 CIAC Sportsmanship Conference at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville on Thursday.

This marks the seventh iteration of the yearly event which is one of the largest the CIAC sponsors each year. The Conference features multiple speakers and presentations directed at both students and the adults in attendance, and will also include the announcement of the 2012-13 overall Michael’s Cup recipient.

The conference will be carried live on the NFHS Network at www.nfhsnetwork.com and will be available to view on-demand after the conclusion of the event.

The conference will run from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will begin with a keynote address from renowned speaker A’ric Jackson whose planned address is titled “Fearless Leadership.” Mr. Jackson has spoken to more than 10,000 students across the United States and Canada, is an award-winning speaker, and five-time published author.

Following the address, students will take part in two 45-minute breakout sessions, one directed by Mr. Jackson, the other by Ms. Julia Beasley  of the Positive Coaching Alliance, a national non-profit organization focused on developing competitors and teach life lessons through sports. Ms. Beasley as an accomplished Olympic athlete, Division I head coach, and standout college and high school athlete. Adult attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a two-hour workshop from the Positive Coaching Alliance titled “Leading Your Athletic Department” Developing a Positive Coaching Culture.

The conclusion of the program will include lunch and announcement of the 2012-13 overall Michael’s Cup recipient along with recognition of the 17 recently announced Michael’s Cup Exemplary Programs.
