CIAC Hosting Rules & Regulations Summer Workshop

ciacnewThe CIAC will hold its annual two-day CIAC Rules and Regulations workshop, August 20-21 at the CIAC offices in Cheshire, with a follow-up session for athletics directors on August 24. The program on both days will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and there is no charge to attend the event as it is considered a benefit of CAS-CIAC membership. Attendees can register at this link: http://casci.ac/1014 with a registration deadline of August 19.

Attendance for the first day of the workshop is REQUIRED per CAS-CIAC rules for all first-year athletics directors, and strongly encouraged for new principals. ADs, principals, and superintendents are all welcome to attend day one of the workshop, while day two is directed more for ADs though others are still welcome.

Day one of the program is designed for ADs, principals, and superintendents and will cover topics such as:

  • What the member school Superintendent, Principal and Athletic Director will be responsible for knowing and implementing
  • CIAC Mission, Organizational Structure, and Authority to Regulate
  • All CIAC Rules of Eligibility – Scholarship, Student Eligibility,
  • Transfer Rules, and Residency
  • Due Process Procedures
  • Concussion Management, Return-to-Play Requirements, new state laws and other health related issues
  • New Certification Requirements for Athletic Directors
  • Coaching Regulations/Permits
  • Out-of-Season Coaching Rules
  • Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Requirements
  • CIAC Chemical Health Policy
  • Sportsmanship

Day two of the workshop is designed for ADs and will cover the basic approach to the fundamentals and methods of athletic administration regarding potential problems and possible solutions in areas such as:

  • Budgets
  • Transportation
  • Scheduling
  • Parent/students/coach conflicts
  • CIAC Online Eligibility Center Procedures

There will be a workshop and LTC 502 for all athletic directors on August 24 from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. provided by the Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors. At that time new AD’s will be given important information about the organization that represents their profession and receive a national course LTC 502. This course takes a basic approach to the fundamentals and methods of athletic administration and alerts and educates athletic administrators regarding potential problems and possible solutions in areas such as budgets, transportation, scheduling and parent/student/coach conflicts. The course also touches upon department organizational charts, activity procedures/checklist, public relations, coaching applications/assessments and emergency plans. Breakfast,refreshments and lunch will be served. Casual attire is recommended.
