Editors Note: CIAC sports committees meet periodically throughout the year, and the meeting reports will highlight relevant decisions or information from the meetings.
The Boys Swimming Committee held its first meeting of the 2014-15 season to finalize plans for the upcoming season and complete the tournament packet. The following were a few notable discussion items and changes.
- The scoring for the Open Championships has been altered to match the scoring already used at the Divisional Championships. The scoring will now be to scored to 30 points over 24 places with the following breakdown: 1st – 30 points; 2nd – 27; 3rd – 26; 4th – 25; 5th – 24; 6th – 23; 7th – 22; 8th – 21; 9th – 19; 10th – 17, 11th – 16; 12th – 15; 13th – 14; 14th – 13; 15th – 12; 16th – 11; 17th – 9; 18th – 7; 19th – 6; 20th – 5; 21st – 4; 22nd – 3; 23rd – 2; 24th – 1.
- Two alternates will now be permitted for each event for the qualifying, Divisional Championship, and Open Championship meets. Previously one alternate was permitted per event, but allowing two alternates should insure all lanes are filled in each heat should there be withdrawals.
The Boys Swimming Committee will meet again in early April after the conclusion of the 2015 season.
