CIAC Set For Fourth High School Bowling Invitational

ciacnewCHESHIRE, Conn. – The CIAC, in partnership with the Connecticut Bowling Proprietors Association, is holding its fourth Connecticut High School Bowling Invitational on Saturday February 28. The event will take place at Bowl-O-Rama in Newington beginning at 10 a.m. and is open to all CIAC member schools.

Registration for the event is now open, and the first 40 programs to submit their entries to the CIAC office, care of Judy Sylvester will be entered in the field.

This year’s event will also feature a Unified Sports bowling tournament at the same venue, marking a rare situation in which an interscholastic and Unified Sports event have been combined.

The teams with a maximum of 10 competitors will face off in a 10-game Baker format in which each bowler participates in two frames to accumulate a team score. Teams will be made up of all boys, all girls, or a combination, and liberal substitution rules will be allowed during the competition.

Currently an activity rather than an official CIAC-sponsored sport, the CIAC is looking to grow bowling with hopes of the sport becoming an official CIAC sport in the coming years. The event has grown significantly over its brief history as 19 schools took place in the first event in 2012 and then more than 30 teams took part in each of the past two seasons.
