Girls Sports Symposium Hosted By Aetna Open To CIAC Membership

aetna logoNEW HAVEN, Conn. – High School girls team coaches and athletes are invited to a girls’ symposium entitled, Diversity and Inclusion in Sport and Community,” which will take place at the Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies tennis tournament, Monday, August 24th. There is no cost to attend this event, however, due to limited seating each school may bring up to a total of 10 people. ct open logoSponsored by Aetna, the Symposium will engage the audience with a panel discussion about the positive impact that diversity and inclusion have on the individual as well as on a community’s climate and culture.  An ESPN Anchor will serve as moderator and four expert panelists will include a female non-profit executive, business owners, a current college athlete, and renowned Special Olympics athlete.  Panelists will share their knowledge and personal experiences on important topics that are the direct outcome of diversity and inclusion.  Coaches and girls in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists and interact with them at the conclusion of the event.
Some of the topics for discussion will be:

  • Acceptance
  • Developing Life Changing Relationships
  • Leadership and Sportsmanship
  • Positive Effects on School and Community Climate

Everyone is welcome to arrive early and walk the grounds before the Symposium begins.  At the conclusion of the Symposium, please be our guest to watch legendary women’s professional tennis, up close and personal.  Overall, the day will be a fun, positive, and informative experience for everyone.  To help you plan, we have included a summary of the day’s activities below:

  • 11:00am: Gates Open
  • 12:00-1:30pm: Aetna Girls’ Symposium
  • Lunch followed by programming
  • Location: Courtside Club, overlooking Stadium Court
  • 1:30pm: Guests enjoy afternoon tennis matches
