The 81st Annual New England Interscholastic Cross Country Championship is scheduled for Saturday, November 14th at Thetford Academy, Thetford, VT.  The event is sponsored by the Council of New England Secondary School Principals’ Association (CNESSPA).  The Girls’ race with begin at 11:30 am, followed by the Boys’ race at 12:30 pm.  The field features the top 25 individual placers and the top 6 teams from the participating New England states (Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont).

Thetford Academy offers a challenging 5000 meter course through trails.  The Girls race features two-time defending New England Champion, Hannah Debalsi, a senior, from Staples HS (Westport, CT).  Defending team champions, La Salle Academy (RI) look to repeat.  They will be challenged by Coe-Brown (NH), Pinkerton Academy (NH), Tolland (CT), and Glastonbury (CT).

In the Boys competition, the top three finishers from a year ago have graduated.  The top returning finisher from last year is Gabriel Altopp from Ridgefield (CT) who placed fourth.  Other top finishers returning are David Principle, Jr. (La Salle Academy, RI), Cameron Daly (Inter-Lakes, NH), Liam Kimball (Timberlane, NH), Eric Vanderels (Brien McMahon, CT), and Randy Neish (Glasonbury, CT). La Salle Academy looks to win their third consecutive New England team championship.  The strongest competition should come from inter-state Rhode Island rival Bishop Hendricken.
