NFHS Network School Broadcast Program Opportunities

s370-nfhsnetwork2The CIAC’s partnership with the NFHS Network continues to provide outstanding live coverage of CIAC Championship events. More than 2,000 fans watched fall championship events either live or On Demand as 21 events were streamed live. We thank all our member schools and championship hosts for working with the Network and helping to spread the word about the broadcasts, as this partnership continues to grow and provide stellar coverage for our deserving student athletes.

However one area where we have not seen significant growth with the NFHS is schools creating School Broadcast Programs (SBP). A very small handful of schools have launched School Broadcast Programs, which gives schools the opportunity for their own students to broadcast their own games. Among similar states that are also members of the NFHS Network, Connecticut’s SBP participation is well below the others. Both because we truly believe the SBP can provide a great educational opportunity for students, and can be a benefit to our member schools, as well as strengthen our partnership with the NFHS Network, the CIAC is committed to helping schools establish School Broadcast Programs any way we can.

With that in mind we would love feedback on a few issues. We are considering holding SBP workshops at the CIAC offices for any schools that may be interested in launching the School Broadcast Program. The programs could be for students, teacher advisers, or administrators. If your school might be interested in attending, please contact Joel Cookson at jcooksonatcasciacdotorg. Similarly for schools that have considered creating an SBP but have not yet done so, we are curious what, if any, impediments impacted the decision. Having a sense for why schools have elected not to create these programs if they were considering them could help us work with the Network to solve some of the issues. Again please contact Joel Cookson with any feedback as we continue to try and move this program forward.
