The CAS-CIAC Scholar Athlete program is one of the longest running the CIAC has, and as such there is a great deal of history. The first group of outstanding student athletes were honored near the end of the 1983-84 school year, and this year’s event will feature the 10,000th student to be recognized as a CAS-CIAC Scholar Athlete.
In recognition of that history the CIAC is hoping to do some stories on some of the past honorees to see what they might be up to now and to lend some perspective on their high school achievements. We are looking for a little help from our member schools in that endeavor. The Scholar Athlete page at CIACsports.com found here: http://ciacsports.com/site/?page_id=150 includes lists of the honorees from each year. We are specifically looking to track down students from the first class, and in particular those who might still be involved either in education or athletics. If schools have any information on the honoree from that first year, please pass it along to Joel Cookson at jcooksoncasciacorg.
We love telling the stories of your scholar athletes, so please pass along any information you have, and in addition if you think your school’s selections for the honor this year have a particularly compelling story please share that information as well. Last year we provided this story on one of New Fairfield’s Scholar Athletes and we would love to highlight others.
