CIAC Indoor Track & Field Open Issue Clarification

ciacnewCHESHIRE, Conn. – Following a review of all entries due to the discovery of entry issues, the individual and team results for the 2016 CIAC Boys & Girls Indoor Track & Field Open Championship have been finalized and released both through email and on CIACsports.com at this link: http://content.ciacsports.com/it16o.shtml.

A National Federation of State High School Associations rule which limits athletes to competing in a total of three events, including individual events and relays, was not understood by all coaches, leading to several illegal entries and disqualifications. The rule was enforced this year for the first time. Entry violations were not detected until late in the meet and teams and media were told CIAC and timing officials would review all entries to insure the final results were correct – and would release as soon as possible which might not come until Sunday. All entries were reviewed in two hours following the meet and the final results have been verified and released. A total of three girls teams and four boys teams were affected. Ten events each for both boys and girls had the final results updated.

“The situation with the entries was unfortunate and CIAC regrets the confusion and disruption that accompanied the conclusion of the Open Championships,” stated Steve Wysowski CIAC Associated Executive Director and Chair of the Indoor Track & Field Committee. “We addressed the issue as quickly as we could to provide corrected results and will certainly review everything that took place to insure similar issues don’t take place in the future.”
