The shortage of licensed high school sports officials is afflicting the world of high school sports nationwide, and Connecticut is not immune. That’s the driving force behind the officials recruitment effort from the NFHS and it’s one that can appeal for high school athletes, coaches and fans. We hope schools will present some of the information and tools provided by the NFHS and point them to http://highschoolofficials.com/ to get more information.
There are a lot of resources available through this initiative including the PSA below in both video and audio form, and the poster that can be found at this link that schools can print out and use to try and spread the word about the benefits of becoming an official. The reality is that many high school athletes will see their athletic careers conclude at the high school level, and becoming an official is a wonderful way to stay engaged in the sport they love. The same can be true of coaches, or even current students who are looking for something different to do in the offseason. This is an important issue that is vital to a healthy high school sports experience and we hope schools will assist in the efforts. The website is http://highschoolofficials.com to get involved or for more information.
