Leagues

While the CIAC sponsors state tournaments and governs athletic eligibility and competition across the state, there are also 10 leagues that provide another venue for play and regulate competition. The leagues work to enhance regular-season competition and create another postseason experience for students while fostering regional rivalries. The league experience is a highly-valuable piece in the larger CIAC puzzle and plays a key role in serving the student-athlete experience.

Berkshire League
The Berkshire League encompasses a region in the northwest portion of Connecticut. The league consists of 10 member schools, the smallest number of the 10 Connecticut leagues, but has produced strong athletics programs throughout its history especially in boys and girls cross country, volleyball, track & field and boys soccer.

Central Connecticut Conference (CCC)
The Central Connecticut Conference is the largest league in the state with a membership that features 32 schools in the central region of Connecticut, including the capitol city of Hartford. The league, led by Commissioner Barbara Startup, consists of four eight-team divisions divided by geography. CCC teams won a total of 29 CIAC Championships in the 2011-12 academic year.

Constitution State Conference (CSC)
A unique league among the 10 the Constitution State Conference is a collection of schools aligned by type, rather than geography. The league features 21 magnet and technical schools spread throughout the state.

Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC)
The Eastern Connecticut Conference began operation in the 1934-35 academic year. The ECC is currently an 18-school league featuring competition in 23 sports programs. A board of directors governs the operations for the league which encompasses a large geographic area in the eastern side of the state.

Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC)
Nineteen schools make up the accurately named Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference which contains programs located in Connecticut’s Fairfield County in the southwest corner of the state. Since its founding in 1961 the league has consistently produced a high number of state champions. Commissioner John Kuczo currently at the helm of the league.

North Central Connecticut Conference (NCCC)
The North Central Connecticut Conference encompasses schools in a large geographic area in the northern central portion of the state, reaching north to the Massachusetts border. Thirteen schools make up the membership in the organization, which claimed eight CIAC State Championships in the 2011-12 academic year, including three in soccer and a pair in cross country.

Naugatuck Valley League (NVL)
The Naugatuck Valley League, centered in Waterbury where five of the 14 schools are located, is wholly made up of 14 schools located in the Naugatuck River Valley. The league expanded from 12 to 14 schools in 2009 and features two divisions of seven teams titled the Brass and Copper Divisions.

Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC)
The Southern Connecticut Conference ranks as the second largest in Connecticut in terms of membership with 22 schools covering a large swath of the southern part of the state and shoreline. Commissioner Al Carbone directs the organization which has existed since 1994. SCC schools won a conference-record 25 state championships in the 2011-12 academic year.League Members:

Shoreline Conference
Thirteen schools, primarily located in Middlesex County in the southeast portion of the state, make up the Shoreline Conference. The league does not sponsor football competition in the fall, although many of its members do play football in the football-only Pequot Conference. The Shorline Conference sponsors 18 sports in total competition and earned six CIAC State Championships this past academic year.

South West Conference (SWC)
The South West Conference currently consists of 16 member schools located in the southwestern portion of Connecticut. A pair of eight-team divisions named the Colonial and Patriot are based on program size and help organize the league schedule. The SWC, which was formed in 1994 and began operations in 1995, is led by Commissioner Pam Goodpaster.League Members:
