Cross Country State Open Recap

The CIAC Cross Country State Open took place on Thursday at Wickham Park. The Danbury girls collected the program’s first Open title by the narrowest of margins, claiming a one-point win over Immaculate. The Hatters improved one place after finishing as the Open runners-up last year. On the boys side, Xavier captured a 13th State Open and its 32nd cross country overall, earning 75 points, 46 points ahead of second-place Hall. Individually, Pomperaug sophomore Kate Wiser ran a strong time of 17:59 to out-pace the field by nearly a minute to capture the individual title. Eli Nahom, a senior from New Milford, was 10 seconds better than the next runner to capture the boys race in a time of 15:54.
